My career began at BPES in 2016 as the principal.
I began my education career with Garden City Public Schools as an eighth grade teacher in 1997. I taught primarily pre-algebra, algebra, and eighth grade science at Abe Hubert Middle School. After seven years, I transferred to Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center within the same district to teach fifth grade math and science. In 2007, it was time for a career change where my family and I moved to the Hutchinson area and I served as principal of South Hutchinson Elementary until 2016.
I am blessed to be married to Thomas Simmons since 1993, who is the 5/6 science teacher at Belle Plaine Middle School. We are both blessed to have two children, Elexie and Nikolai. Elexie graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 2018 and will be attending Wichita State University this year following in her parents footsteps by majoring in Elementary Education. Niko will be a senior this year at Belle Plaine High School. Other members of our family include a beagle named Roscoe, and a cairn terrier named Walter.
If I am not at school, then I can be found spending time with my family or in my art studio as I enjoy papercrafting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, and art jounaling/mixed media.
